New Zealand's first app-based electronic RUC management system for light EVs, PHEVs, and diesel vehicles.
myRUC is an NZTA-approved electronically assisted Road User Charges system developed by Picobyte Solutions Limited. It uses a smartphone app and compact E-ink windscreen display rather than a conventional installed electronic distance recorder. The service supports light electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, light diesel vehicles and buses. NZTA currently lists MYRUC and Symtec's aRUC as approved electronically assisted RUC systems. The myRUC service comprises a 4.3-inch electronic display, an iOS or Android app and web-based fleet-management functions. Stand-alone users enter odometer readings, purchase RUC licences and transfer the licence to the display; compatible telematics integrations can support alerts and automated renewals. myRUC Pro provides subscription-based fleet administration integrated with Picobyte's RUC Monkey platform. Picobyte states that the self-installed display costs $285 including GST and that software subscription or RUC transaction fees may apply depending on the service. The company also claims the BYO-device approach can avoid up to $250 in conventional installation costs. Individual users can pay through POLi, while fleet customers can use direct debit. The Government is modernising the RUC system and intends eventually to move petrol vehicles to RUC, but the timing of that transition will be decided after assessing market readiness; 1 July 2027 is currently the date heavy electric vehicles enter RUC, not a confirmed universal eRUC deadline.

myRUC was approved for electronically assisted RUC and deployed for buses after development and testing involving Picobyte, NZ Bus and NZTA oversight. An integration partnership with IVCS ONE was announced in July 2023.
myRUC was marketed to light EV and PHEV owners following the start of their RUC obligations on 1 April 2024. Picobyte also entered an integration partnership with MTData for New Zealand fleet customers.

The Government is modernising RUC services ahead of a future petrol-fleet transition, but has not fixed 1 July 2027 as a universal eRUC deadline.
