Overview

myRUC is an NZTA-approved electronic Road User Charges management system developed by Picobyte Solutions Limited. It is described as the first and only EaRUC (app-based electronic RUC) approved in New Zealand, representing a newer approach that uses a smartphone app and compact E-ink windscreen display rather than traditional in-cab hardware units. The system is designed for light electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, light diesel vehicles, and buses. The myRUC system consists of three components: a 4.3-inch E-ink electronic display mounted on the windscreen, a mobile app available on iOS and Android, and a web portal for fleet management (myRUC Pro). Users manually input odometer readings through the app and purchase RUC licences in real-time, which are then displayed on the E-ink device. For fleet customers, myRUC Pro offers subscription-based fleet management with integration into the RUC Monkey web platform (rucmonkey.co.nz). myRUC was developed collaboratively with NZ Bus under Waka Kotahi oversight and is positioned as a cost-effective BYO-device alternative, claiming savings of up to $250 per vehicle compared to conventional hardware-based eRUC installations. Payment is handled through POLi secure banking for individuals and direct debit for fleet customers.
