Australasia's fleet management and safety solutions experts, driving a safe and sustainable future for government, health, and utility fleets.
Smartrak is a Hamilton-founded fleet management, telematics, and safety technology company serving government, utilities, healthcare, education, and community services across New Zealand and Australia. Founded in 2006 with the vision of building a superior GPS fleet management solution for the Australasian market, the company grew steadily for a decade before being acquired by Volaris Group (a subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc.) in March 2017. Since the acquisition, Smartrak has continued to grow through both organic development and strategic acquisitions, including the 2019 purchase of PoolCar (a vehicle booking platform) and the assets of Lingo Systems in Australia. The company has positioned itself as a leader in electric vehicle fleet management through its Nextrak EV telematics platform and Priority Charging solution, and is an appointed provider on New Zealand's All of Government (AoG) Fleet Management Services panel. Smartrack's client base includes prominent public sector organisations such as Kaipara District Council, Plunket (500+ vehicles), and Meridian Energy. The company is a Drive Electric Corporate Member and an IPWEA Fleet Sustainability Partner, reflecting its strategic focus on sustainable transport and EV transition.

Smartrak provides automated RUC management as part of its Fleet Servicing Module. The solution integrates with NZTA to handle licence renewals, real-time expiry alerts, and off-road rebate calculations for mixed fleets of diesel, petrol, hybrid, and electric vehicles. The system automatically calculates rebates for off-road travel and pre-populates NZTA claim forms, though it is limited to vehicles tracked with Smartrak's own AVL devices.
Canadian software conglomerate Constellation Software, through its Volaris Group division, acquired Smartrak Holdings Limited on 31 May 2017. The Hamilton-based telematics company had grown steadily since its 2006 founding, tracking over 23,000 assets across 300+ organisations. Under Constellation's 'buy and hold forever' model, Smartrak retained its brand and Hamilton headquarters, with then-CEO Troy O'Connor continuing to lead the business.
Smartrak acquired the assets of Australian company Lingo Systems Pty Ltd in February 2019, gaining the PoolCar vehicle booking platform serving 180+ customers across 14 countries. The acquisition added pool vehicle management, electronic key cabinets, and keyless vehicle entry to Smartrak's offering, and PoolCar has since doubled in size. Key clients include Queensland State Government (QFleet) and multiple Australian hospitals and universities.
In September 2025, Smartrak was appointed as a provider on New Zealand's All of Government Fleet Management Services panel, led by MBIE. The appointment allows government agencies, state-funded schools, and other publicly funded entities to procure Smartrak's telematics and compliance management solutions through a streamlined procurement framework. CEO Casey Molloy described it as solidifying the company's longstanding commitment to government agencies across New Zealand.
