Non-profit trade association supporting trucking operators with safety management, compliance guidance, education, and advocacy since 1988.
The New Zealand Trucking Association (NTA) is a non-profit trade association established in 1988 to serve as a collective voice for trucking operators throughout New Zealand. Based in Christchurch, the NTA supports members ranging from single owner-operators to large corporate transport companies and industry suppliers. The Association's primary mission is to improve safety, professionalism, and operational standards across the trucking sector. It delivers flagship programmes including TruckSafe NZ (a safety management accreditation system developed alongside the Australian Trucking Association), HARMfree Transport (a workplace health and wellbeing initiative funded by ACC), and the Road Safety Truck (a mobile education unit visiting schools and communities since 2017). The NTA advocates on behalf of its members on transport policy, regulatory compliance, and RUC reform, and has welcomed the government's move towards a single unified RUC system for all vehicles.

In August 2025, the NTA publicly backed Transport Minister Chris Bishop's announcement to move towards a single, unified RUC system for collecting National Land Transport Fund revenue, replacing the outdated fuel excise model. CEO David Boyce called it 'a common-sense and necessary shift,' emphasising that RUC is the fairest and most efficient way to ensure all road users pay based on actual wear and tear. The NTA supports digital innovation to streamline RUC for operators and private motorists alike.
The NZ Trucking Association established the Trucking Industry Show in 2014, which has grown into the largest trucking and trade industry exhibition in New Zealand, held biennially at Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch.
In October 2024, the NZ Trucking Association opened its membership to transport companies and operators nationwide, positioning itself as a forward-thinking organisation committed to driving sustainable change in the trucking industry.
In April 2025, the NZ Trucking Association launched TruckSafe New Zealand, a not-for-profit industry-led Safety Management Accreditation System adapted from Australia's TruckSafe programme with over 27 years of proven success.
