Altron-owned fleet-telematics provider certified for Australia's highest-assurance heavy-vehicle access application.
Netstar Australia is the Australian fleet-telematics operation of Netstar, an Altron group company founded in South Africa in 1994. The Australian business was formed through the acquisition and 2019 renaming of Pinpoint Communications, a telematics provider that had been certified within Australia's National Telematics Framework since 2010. Its commercial platform covers vehicle and asset tracking, driver behaviour, video, electronic work diaries, fatigue, fleet operations and regulatory telematics. The wider Netstar business passed two million subscribers before a 2026 managing-director transition, giving the Australian operation access to a larger connected-vehicle technology and support base. Netstar's principal road-charging relevance is regulatory assurance rather than retail RUC sales. Transport Certification Australia lists it for the Intelligent Access Program, Telematics Monitoring Application and Road Infrastructure Management. Its TRK2004G device is approved across assurance levels 1, 2 and 3. Level 3 IAP information can support evidentiary heavy-vehicle access decisions, while TMA and RIM serve lower-assurance monitoring and infrastructure-planning uses. Netstar is not an NZTA-approved RUC provider. Its TCA record shows that commercial telematics can be independently assessed for accuracy, integrity, security and audit. This is an important comparative model if New Zealand permits more built-in and third-party telematics to support distance charging.
