Global leader in commercial telematics with 5M+ connected vehicles, an open platform with marketplace, and the #1 ABI Research ranking four years running.
Geotab Inc. is the world's largest commercial telematics company by connected vehicle subscriptions, headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2000 by Neil Cawse, the company grew from a family-run basement operation into a global enterprise with over 2,700 employees, more than 5 million connected vehicles, and operations spanning 160+ countries. Geotab's open platform architecture -- centred on its GO hardware device and cloud-based MyGeotab software -- processes over 100 billion data points per day, providing fleet operators with real-time visibility into vehicle location, driver behaviour, fuel consumption, EV battery health, and regulatory compliance. Geotab's distinctive competitive advantage is its open ecosystem. The Geotab Marketplace offers hundreds of third-party hardware add-ons and software integrations, and the company's public SDK and API enable bi-directional data flows with enterprise systems. This approach has attracted a diverse customer base ranging from owner-operators to Fortune 500 enterprises and the US Federal Government. ABI Research has ranked Geotab as the number-one global commercial telematics vendor for four consecutive years (2022-2025). The company remains privately held and entirely founder-owned, with no outside investors. In the Australia and New Zealand market, Geotab entered through a strategic partnership with EROAD announced in October 2024. The partnership's first product, EROAD Locate, leverages Geotab's GO9 hardware to deliver a cost-effective telematics solution for light commercial vehicles. This positions Geotab within the NZ RUC ecosystem indirectly, as EROAD is the country's dominant electronic RUC provider. Geotab's technology also underpins RUC-related applications through third-party integrations such as RUC Monkey, which uses Geotab GPS data to automate off-road RUC credit claims.
Compact OBD-II plug-in telematics device with 32-bit processor, GNSS positioning, gyroscope, accelerometer, and LTE connectivity. Records vehicle location, speed, engine data, and driver behaviour. Cloud-based fleet management platform providing real-time vehicle tracking, driver behaviour scoring, fuel economy benchmarking, EV charge monitoring, route optimisation, maintenance scheduling, and customisable dashboards with an advanced rules engine.
Open ecosystem of 300+ third-party hardware and software solutions that integrate with the Geotab platform, including dash cams, asset trackers, temperature sensors, and specialised fleet applications.
Open-source software development kit enabling bi-directional data integration between MyGeotab and third-party enterprise systems, supporting custom applications and workflow automation.

Geotab does not directly operate as an approved eRUC provider in New Zealand, but its technology plays a growing role in the NZ RUC ecosystem through two channels. First, the October 2024 partnership with EROAD -- NZ's dominant eRUC provider -- positions Geotab's GO9 hardware within the ANZ compliance market via the EROAD Locate product. Second, third-party applications such as RUC Monkey use Geotab GPS data to automate off-road RUC credit calculations through geofencing and post-processed trip analysis.
Geotab partnered with New Zealand-based EROAD to launch EROAD Locate, a cost-effective telematics solution for light commercial vehicles across New Zealand and Australia. The partnership targets the significant untapped market where only 48% of the roughly 800,000 light commercial vehicles in New Zealand use telematics.
ABI Research ranked Geotab as the number one global commercial telematics vendor for the fourth year running. Geotab surpassed 5 million connected vehicle subscriptions across 55,000 customers in over 160 countries, processing 100 billion data points daily.
Geotab announced support for over 300 electric vehicle makes and models at the opening of its Automotive Innovation and Research Hub in England. The platform provides real-time data on battery charge, range, energy usage, and charging history. Its Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessment (EVSA) tool was adopted by the US General Services Administration to assess over 13,000 federal vehicles for electrification feasibility.
