New Zealand fleet-telematics company providing NZTA-listed electronically assisted RUC purchasing and digital licence display.
Cartrack New Zealand Limited is the local operation of Cartrack, the vehicle-telematics business owned by Nasdaq-listed Karooooo Limited. The New Zealand company was incorporated in March 2016 and operates from Takapuna, Auckland. Its broader fleet platform combines live vehicle and asset tracking, driver identification, safety and video tools, maintenance reminders, fuel controls, application integrations and road user charge administration. Cartrack has a direct place in New Zealand's RUC market, but its approval category requires care. NZTA lists Cartrack NZ as an approved provider of an electronically assisted RUC system. That service can automate licence purchases and remotely load current licence information to a digital display. It is not listed by NZTA as an approved electronic distance recorder, the separate approval category used where an installed device provides the legally recognised distance record. Cartrack markets GPS-derived distance and off-road reporting as supporting information within its fleet service. The New Zealand operation sits inside a much larger international software-as-a-service business. Karooooo reported 2.6 million subscribers at the end of its third quarter of FY2026. Group scale provides Cartrack NZ with a mature cloud platform, connected hardware and international product development, while local installation and support are supplied through the New Zealand business. For RUC-market analysis, Cartrack is most relevant as an example of a telematics provider extending into RUC purchasing and electronic display without occupying the same regulatory category as EROAD, Coretex, Teletrac Navman or Picobyte electronic distance recorders. That distinction may become more important as New Zealand broadens the approved-provider market and considers a wider range of electronic distance evidence.
Monitors remaining licensed distance, purchases a new RUC licence as a configured threshold approaches and remotely updates the in-vehicle licence display.

Road-facing and supported camera options with event footage, live viewing and driver-risk information.

Cartrack NZ is an NZTA-listed provider of electronically assisted RUC. Its service combines digital licence display, RUC status, purchasing workflows and telematics-derived fleet information. NZTA's current public list places Cartrack in the electronically assisted category, which does not itself approve the Cartrack device as the vehicle's legal electronic distance recorder.
